Crinum Lily, Exotica, jumbo, blooming-size bulb, NEW, Amazing!

Description: DESCRIPTION: Exotica is a very rare hybrid done by the world's foremost crinum hybridizer, David Lehmiller. The white flowers are HUGE, 8" in diameter, with a thin rose-red stripe down each petal. Thad Howard says in his book, Bulbs For Warm Climates, page 73, “A beautiful hybrid of C. scabrum x C, procerum, created and introduced by Dave Lehmiller of Sour Lake, TX. The flowers are patent, white with rose stripes.” We have recorded as many as 18 flowers on 28" tall scapes and mature bulbs grow to about 5" in diameter. It has never produced any seeds for us. Ours have bloomed from May to July in zone 9, northeast Florida. This is being offered by us on eBay for the first time in 2019 and quantities are very limited. Currently we grow over 1000 varieties of crinum and have one of the largest collections in the world including about 350 of our own hybrids. BACKGROUND: EXOTICA (crinum scabrum x asiaticum variation procerum - purple leaf) was hybridized by Dr. David Lehmiller. We acquired our original bulb in 2007 from another collector. GROWING CONDITIONS: Bulbs thrive on rich, loamy ground. This could be marginal in zone 7 without protection. We wouldn't recommend it outside below zone 7. It will grow fine in a large pot, but would have to be kept out of freezing weather. DESCRIPTION OF ITEM FOR BID: You are bidding on a jumbo, blooming-size bulb at least 6 years old and about 3" in diameter which should bloom within 1 year. It should transplant easily. The bulbs will be freshly dug and shipped bare root. WE SIZE OUR BULBS APPROXIMATELY BY AGE AS FOLLOWS: A few varieties can take 6 years or more to bloom. Jumbo bulb – has bloomed at least 2 years, close to the maximum size for that particular plant (6+ years old) Large bulb - should bloom this year or next (3+ years old, close to, or at blooming size) Medium bulb - should bloom in 1-2 years (at least 2 years old) Small bulb - should bloom 2-4 years (current year or 1-2 year old offset) Seedling bulb - started from seed (usually in its first year of growth unless otherwise stated) PHOTOS/ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: These are pictures of our plants, so you know exactly what they look like and what you will receive.
