Description: This sword is a French naval sword that ended up at Memphis Novelty Works , Thomas Leech & Co . during the U S Civil war . The CSS TENNESSEE Was a Confederate Ironclad Ram and also served as the Flagship of Admiral Franklin Buchanan , she was captured in THE BATTLE of MOBILE BAY in 1864 . The finely etched blade has CSA on the front side but you have to take it out in the Sun light to see the CSA , looks as though some yankee has rubed the CSA out ! Has BEAL ST MEMPHIS on the top of the blade . On the reverse side of the blade has nice etching with the word TENNESSEE in 3/4 in. Letters . Sword is in excellent condition . Overall lenth in scabbard is 39 in. , blade lenth 29 in. Width of blade is 1 1/8 in . Has the orginal shark skin scabbard , in good condition but the tip in missing off the bottom of the scabbard . I live in Tennessee but I am on the other end from Memphis , you are welcome to come look at my sword .
