Community Policing: Partnerships for Problem Solving by Linda Miller (English) H

Description: Community Policing by Linda Miller, Christine Orthmann, Kären Hess Revised edition of the authors Community policing. FORMAT Hardcover LANGUAGE English CONDITION Brand New Publisher Description With a strong focus on problem solving and community-police partnerships, this comprehensive text provides a practical, up-to-date guide to effective community policing. After an introduction to the history and philosophy of the movement that has profoundly shaped modern police operations, the authors emphasize practical strategies and essential skills to help readers apply effective, real-world problem solving within their communities. In light of recent high-profile deadly force incidents that have strained the relationships between the community and the police, the eighth edition taps into the recommendations in the Final Report of the Presidents Task Force on 21st Century Policing and its call for a renewed emphasis on community policing to strengthen public trust and build police legitimacy. And the MindTap that accompanies this text helps you master techniques and key concepts while engaging you with career-based decision-making scenarios, visual summaries, and more. Author Biography Linda S. Miller is the former executive director of the Upper Midwest Community Policing Institute (UMCPI), as well as a former sergeant in the Bloomington, Minnesota, Police Department. She was with the department 22 years, serving as a patrol supervisor, crime prevention officer, patrol officer, and police dispatcher. Sergeant Miller has been a member of the Minnesota Peace and Police Officers Association, the International Police Association, the Midwest Gang Investigators Association, the International Association of Women Police, and the Minnesota Association of Women Police, and she was a member of the People-to-Peoples Women in Law Enforcement Delegation to the Soviet Union in 1990. She is also a frequent presenter to community groups and an experienced instructor. The late Kären Matison Hess, Ph.D., wrote extensively about law enforcement and criminal justice, gaining a prestigious reputation for the consistent pedagogical style around which she structured each textbook. Dr. Matison co-authored multiple editions of MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISION IN LAW ENFORCEMENT, JUVENILE JUSTICE, INTRODUCTION TO LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE, CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM and CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION. Many of the renowned strengths of Dr. Matisons practical presentation as well as her investigative insights remain hallmarks of this new edition. Christine H. Orthmann holds an M.S. in criminal justice from the University of Cincinnati and has been writing and researching in various aspects of criminal justice for over 20 years. She is the co-author of numerous Cengage Learning textbooks, a former reserve officer with the Rosemount, Minnesota, Police Department and a member of the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), the American Society of Criminology (ASC), the Text and Academic Authors Association (TAA) and the National Criminal Justice Honor Society (Alpha Phi Sigma).
