Description: Shown here are four dropped Civil War bullets dug in 1974 near the Cedar Creek battlefield off route 11 on private property with the owner's permission. The Union Maj. Gen. Phil Sheridan had been in Winchester on October 19,1864 some twenty miles away, when the fighting began. Upon hearing of the battle, he saddled up his prize horse, Rienzi, and rode to Cedar Creek the scene of that day's action. Once there, he commenced rallying his dispirited troops and launched a counterattack that not only drove the Rebels from the field, but also ended effective Confederate resistance in the Shenandoah Valley for the duration of the war. The area I hunted was heavily fought over during the battle by the Union VIII Corp and the Confederate II Corp troops, these bullets consist of three .58 cal. Union minie's and (1) .69 Cal. minie. All bullets are in excellent dropped condition for being in the ground for over 100 years. Great addition to any Civil War bullet collection.
