Description: AUSTRIAN IRIDESCENT GOLD, BLUE AND GREEN GLASS VASE WITH SILVER OVERLAY BY LA PIERRE "L / Sterling" trademark for La Pierre, glass is attributed to Loetz; circa 1910 | ground pontil marked "41" Item # 103GOL11A An incredibly vibrant Austrian iridescent glass vase attributed to Loetz. It is not documented or signed by their firm, but the brilliant quality of the glass and the regular collaborations they had with the La Pierre silver workshop make it highly likely to have been executed by Loetz. The vase exhibits an exaggerated bulbous body with a tapered neck and flared rim finished in silver, the body with a beautifully engraved silver overlay of leaves and berries on a vine continuing around in a circular presentation. The glass remains in pristine condition with no noted flaws to the fine gold, green, blue and magenta iridescence; beneath the vase is a ground and polished pontil faintly marked "41" but unsigned. The silver firm of La Pierre was founded in 1889 in New York City and Newark, New Jersey and manufactured silver objects and novelties. Their signature can be found on many Bohemian art glass objects of the period with their elaborate Art Nouveau silver applieques. Measurements: 8 3/4" H x 6" diameter Condition Report: Glass in very fine condition. Tiny chip beside the ground pontil. One small leaf replaced (lower leaf beside some berries); stem of one berry cluster repaired and reattached at some point; one upper berry perhaps replaced or at least reattached. Some tarnish and patina to the silver throughout. A gorgeous presentation.
