Those born in the years 1909, 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, and 2017 celebrate the Year of the Rooster. According to tradition, people born during a Year of the Rooster are said to exhibit that animal’s attributes. They are observant, brave, resilient, attractive, and tenacious, but can also be self-absorbed and overly romantic. Rooster people are very observant. Most of the time, they are precise and accurate with their observations. You can say that Roosters have a very keen "sixth sense". It is not an easy task to fool the Rooster. Their mind is cautious and skeptical. Gifted with perception, Roosters make excellent trouble shooters, detectives, fixers, bagmen, doctors, nurses and psychiatrists. With Roosters, what you see is exactly what you get; they are straightforward and forthright. Roosters like to appear attractive and beautifully turned out. They are sociable and love to receive attention. The Rooster likes to be noticed and flattered. They might dress a little nattily with this in mind, but in their heart, they are usually conservative. Roosters are happiest when they are surrounded by others, whether at a party or just a social gathering. They enjoy the spotlight and will exhibit their charm at the drop of a hat. Roosters are always up, out and doing things. They are extremely motivated, the most motivated of all the animals of the Chinese Lunar Zodiac. You rarely see a relaxed rooster that sits quietly on the couch doing nothing. They are also multi-talented, and can become accomplished in many different ways. Because they are hardworking, resourceful, courageous and talented, Roosters are typically confident about themselves. Roosters are loyal and they make devoted friends. They keep their promises and are true to their word. Sensitive individuals may find it hard to get along well with Roosters, because they can brag about themselves and their accomplishments, which may make other, less accomplished, animals uncomfortable. The Seattle grunge band Alice in Chains had an early alternative radio and mainstream rock hit with their song "Rooster" back in 1992. It was about an infantry soldier grunt's experiences during the Vietnam War. Now you know. This is the tenth annual release in the Lunar Zodiac Series II from Australia! An Ultra High Relief, Proof Silver Dollar! Once again, the Perth Mint has done the monkey proud! Each silver dollar is struck in ultra high relief, with a frosted cameo proof finish, and is a piedfort (extra-thick coin), measuring a substantial 6 mm thick! What is a Piedfort? Hard to find and popular with collectors for more than a century, piedforts are highly sought after. We get asked all the time, "What is a piedfort?" There are two different, but related, stories of the origin of the word "piedfort". The first says that it literally means "strong foot" in French (from pied, foot and fort, strong). The second says this word was appropriated by the mint centuries ago to mean "heavy measure" or "heavy weight". In both cases, the sense of serious heft to the coin is obvious. Often the word "piedfort" is translated as "double-thick", but this is neither a literal translation nor a precisely accurate definition. Numismatically speaking, any coin that is 50% or more thicker than a standard version qualifies as a piedfort, although some piedforts are, indeed, twice as thick as normal. Finally, the age-old question, "How is the word pronounced?" Coming from French, it is not pronounced as it is spelled; that is, don't say, "pide - fort". Rather, "pee - ay - four" (three syllables) is a good approximation. Obverse A rooster (the cock of the walk), a mother hen, and their three baby chicks enjoy the good life. The legend YEAR OF THE ROOSTER defines the theme. The Chinese character for "Rooster" is above the hen, while the Perth Mint's "P" mint mark is judiciously placed to the left, near the 9:00 position along the rim. Reverse The reverse features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, in crowned profile facing right. This portrait, featuring Her Majesty wearing a tiara and pearl earrings, was executed by the sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend 1 OZ 999 SILVER guarantees the weight and purity. The legend ELIZABETH II, the date and the denomination also appear. Packaging The coin is encapsulated inside an elegant, red and black presentation case lined with black velvet & satin and protected by a full color outer box. An individually-numbered certificate of authenticity is included.
