Description: From the private collection of Tim Gagnon - KSCartist aka “The Patch Guy” Astronaut Alan and Laura Shepard "LIKE FATHER - LIKE DAUGHTER" Commemorative Patch On May 5, 1961 Astronaut Alan Shepard became the first American to fly into space when he launched in a Mercury spacecraft he named “Freedom 7” atop a Redstone rocket. The mission designation was MR-3. Although his flight was suborbital it kick-started the successful effort to land men on the Moon by the end of the 1960’s. On December 11, 2021 - 60 years after Shepards flight, his oldest daughter Laura Shepard Churchley and five others were launched aboard the Blue Origin “New Shepard” spacecraft on a suborbital flight. This mission designation NS-19. This design commemorates both father and daughter sharing a similar experience of the “beautiful view” of Earth from space. On the left is a gold Astronaut pin awarded to Alan Shepard and on the right a silver feather which is the focal point of the silver astronaut pin awarded to those who fly aboard the Blue Origin spacecraft. I was careful not to copy or infringe on copyrighted material. The gold astronaut pin is on the Apollo 14 patch which is in the public domain. The feather is different from the feather on the Blue Origin logo. These signed and numbered patches are 4.5 inches in diameter. * numbered and signed by the artist
