I'm not a fan of padding because it's typically imported and it's always bulky for storage, not to mention, most paddings fall apart and harbor moisture in humid environments. The thick nylon is plenty to keep charging handles, levers, knobs and safeties from gouging adjacent weapons. I can mix and match pieces for the range and throw them in a pelican case or converted toolbox. So long as they aren't crushed together, the nylon offers plenty of protection. My blued, parkerized, cerocote, and duracoat finishes are no worse for wear after storage and repeated range trips.
