Description: Offered here are four coin auction catalogs from various times in 1980 which showcased the Dr. Richard P. Ariagno (3 of the 4 catalogs), University of Rochester (2 of the 4) and Henry P. Wilke collection (1 of the 4) collections of Foreign and United States coins. These were significant collections auctioned by Bowers & Ruddy Galleries of Los Angeles, CA. Details follow in chronological order. Catalog 1 (first photograph) features items all from the Dr. Richard P. Ariagno collection. The auction was done over the course of two days - January 24-25th 1980. This catalog (80 pages) is dominated by U.S. coins ranging from colonial to 20th century as well as some U.S. currency. The final part of the catalog is an assortment of foreign coins spanning a couple thousand years from Ancient to the 20th century. The 2nd photograph shows the "prices realized" sheet. Catalog 2 (3rd photograph) features more coins from the Ariagno collection as well as the University of Rochester collection. It was done on June 9th, 1980. This catalog (77 pages) and auction was of all ancient coins. The 4th photograph shows the included "estimates" of value sheet. The "prices realized sheet is shown as photograph 7 (the last photo) as this and the next two auctions were all covered by one mailing of the prices covering the three catalogs. Catalog 3 (5th photograph) was the final session of Dr. Ariagno's collection and the collection of Henry P. Wilke. The auction was done over 2 days - June 9-10, 1980. The catalog (158 pages) features all foreign coins. Catalog 4 (6th photograph) features coins only from the University of Rochester collection. The auction was done over two days - June 10-11, 1980. The catalog (88 pages) is of all U.S. coins and currency. As with most period B&R auction catalogs, each volume has hundreds of well rendered B&W photographs of the coins usually with an assortment of choice ones in a set of color plates in the front of each volume. As noted, there are "prices realized" inserts covering all four of the catalogs. Condition of all the catalogs is essentially perfect, i.e., in essentially "mint" (to use coin jargon) condition with no soiling, rips, writing or other damage with the exception of a little bit of rubbing on the back black cover of the first described catalog. Shipping will be via USPS Media Mail rate. I will be listing more Bowers & Ruddy catalogs from the early to mid-1980s and will be happy to combine multiple listings purchases for shipping to lower the cost which has gone up of recent. Please feel free to ask questions about any particular catalog as far as the coins, currency and related items it concentrated on!
