Description: Thank you for viewing this beautiful antique Victorian 1800's Australian Opal and diamond ring. The ring contains 24 old mine and rose cut diamonds weighting between .75 and 1.00 carats. The diamonds are an average quality of G/H color and VS/SI clarity. The ring size is 5.5. The weight of the ring is 6.0 grams. The opal appears to be original to the ring. The opal has cracks but they are very hard, if not impossible to see with the naked eye. I personally can't see the cracks without a loop. That's not to say that someone with exceptional eye sight might be able to. The opal measures approximately 14x10 mm. The color is beautiful. The photos don't do it justice. The ring would be valued for far more than the price it's listed for if the opal didn't have cracks. At this price, consider the opal to be free. The ring has a top layer of silver where the rose cut diamonds are set. This is common for Victorian and Georgian era jewelry. The reminder of the ring tests as 12k under computer analysis. Part of the ring near the silver tests as 8k but that might be a false reading because of the silver influencing the result. The ring comes with an attractive gift box. An important thing to mention regarding condition descriptions of antique and vintage jewelry is its judgement criteria which is very different than that applied to modern jewelry. The expectation for modern jewelry classified as being in "excellent' condition is an item that is possibly high polished and in close to new condition. Antique and vintage jewelry is never supposed to be polished. In fact, polishing antique jewelry can actually diminish its value and appeal. Therefore, patina, mild surface scratches, bruises, nicks and other indications of age can, and depending on the degree, should be present in antique jewelry classified as being in excellent condition. The more important condition factors to consider in antique jewelry is the integrity of the its structure and its design features such as migraine, setting work, engraving, filigree work, etc. If a new look with an antique design is what you're looking for, reproduction jewelry might be an option worth considering. As with all of our listings this ring was carefully inspected to insure quality control and authenticity.
