Description: Antique Naive Trompe L’oeil With Book/Flowers, Signed (1883, Oil On Board). Dark and moody Trompe l’oeil with open book and flowers cascading from the center set against a black background. Book appears to be on a platform of sorts. The inscription inside the pages reads: “with loving wishes” that was painting over (as in a mistake) and replaced with “with loving greetings”. This piece appears to be painted as a birthday present for the recipient. Signed and dated in the lower right corner. Signature is illegible. In used condition with chip to the upper right corner and scratches and scuffs to board. Small 1” white paint drip on the upper left hand side of the book. Please refer to photos for details.
