Description: Gorgeous example of the unique characteristics of Dugan’s transitional Iridescent Glass lines from the early 1900s: - Pompeian (sometimes also called Venetian) triple-pinched rose bowl vase - Purple/amethyst glass is iridescent & has vertical stripes of “Stippled Estate” pattern, created by the application of frit (broken glass pieces), creating additional sparkle - UV reactive (photos under 365 flashlight) - One of the larger examples I’ve seen, measuring ~5” tall x 5” diameter - In excellent used antique (ca. 1905-1910) shape with no cracks, chips or repairs. This art glass line has purposeful production “flaws”, e.g. tool marks, mold seams, irregular rims etc. (see information below) that are part of its unique beauty - But please enlarge & examine all photos as item’s best representations to determine design, size, color (appearance of which varies by monitor/screen & lighting) & condition by your standards & ask any questions you may have prior to purchase - I’m not a store, reseller or expert; vase is from my personal collection that I must unfortunately downsize. - Buyer may select USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail shipping or local pickup (70433 zip code) at checkout Thank you! About Dugan’s Iridescent Art Glass lines: Dugan iridescent glass line production began 1905-1906, between the end of Victorian glass production & development of Dugan/Diamond's own Carnival lines. It was marketed in period catalogs as Venetian, Pompeian or Japanese, which all refer to imported fashion crazes of the period. Pompeian vases (confusingly also referred to in some catalogs as Venetian) were described as "exquisite Tiffany pattern glass, iridescent and resplendent in wine and ruby colors." Dugan Iridescent Art Glass pieces were blown into a mold, rolled in frit (small pieces of glass) and shaped by hand. Glass was pinched, twisted, stretched & distorted, coming alive by means of pattern and texture. The Art Nouveau aesthetic focused on organic form, breaking from the classic ideal of harmonious shape. Dugan’s pieces further emphasized roughness, a sense of imperfection revealing process & the craftman's hand, with purposely visible mold seams, tool marks & irregular fire-polished rims.
