Antique Child Jesus Olot Plaster Statue. 1920s. Glass Eyes. Spanish. Vintage.

Description: Really lovely antique plaster statue of the Child Jesus, with glass eyes and stunning original brass halo. The figure, dressed in a blue gown with gold detail, carries a cross and stands on clouds. It has the sweetest face and the eyes are very striking. Whilst it is unmarked, the statue carries all the hallmarks of a work from Olot, Catalonia, north-eastern Spain, famed throughout the world as the centre of Christian art workshops. There is some writing on the reverse of the base - the initials J.M. and Res. 2011 which I take to be the Spanish 'restaurada' which means restored. Often the original workshops will undertake this sort of restoration. The lovely brass halo, with its etched design, is original to the piece. As with all Spanish statues, it is removeable and will be shipped unattached. It can then either be glued in place or fixed in with a temporary re-usable adhesive such as Blu-Tak. I think it dates from around the 1920s or 30s. As mentioned, it has had some later restoration, namely there is some overpainting. There is a crack around the paint on the base which seems quite stable and not requiring any attention.
