Description: This listing is for an Antique 1850s or earlier I s f a h a n Ahmad Agha Fine Oriental Rug Carpet measuring about 57 inches by 75 inches ( 145 x 190 cm pile only ) ( pile only , not including fringes and flat woven ends) or 78 inches overall, weighing about 13 lbs. net. Wool ( possibly fine kork wool ) on cotton warp and weft, carrying a kpsi of about 400 ( please see images of back with ruler ) makes it a very fine rug as unlike silk rugs and or rugs with silk foundation knots will be thicker and much harder to apply at high kpsi. Most probably a masterpiece from the Ahmad workshop with natural, expressive, high-quality colors; fine knotting with most probably high-quality wool , artistic, decorative medallion pattern, rare, unique quality, probably made to order. It has been soak washed by a textile conservator ( 7/16/19 ) and it is clean enough to touch face with. In excellent antique as shown condition with what amounts to a minimal sporadic wear amounting to less than a few square inches total ( that would be something like 1 to 2 1000th of area of the rug with pile wear and 998 to 999 part of 1000th of the area with good pile.. The fringes are intact for most part on both end. Please see images. Exceptional piece. It will be shipped folded inside out.
