Description: Hi all! This is a Beautiful Fossil Carcharocles angustidens Shark Tooth from South Carolina! Angustidens was a huge species of prehistoric shark widely believed to be a direct ancestor to the infamous Megalodon. It lived during the Oligocene Epoch approximately 34 to 23 million years ago and grew to nearly 40 feet (12 meters) in length! It would have fed primarily on large fish, other sharks and large marine mammals!. Its teeth are well known for being large, triangular, and serrated with small but noticeable cusps on each side where the enamel meets the root. Over time the teeth would get larger, develop serrations, and the cusps would get smaller and smaller until disappearing while the tooth and shark reached maximum size in Megalodon. A great addition to any fossil collection or gift for aspiring paleontologists, the tooth measures 1.62 inches (4.13 cm) along its longest edge with fantastic serrations, great cusps, and no repair, restoration, or alteration!A fantastic piece from one of the largest and most terrifying predators to ever live! All of my items come with a Certificate of Authenticity!
