Description: Maya terracotta fragment –most of its body is intact. It measures 2 inches high x 1 3/8 inches wide (at the widest area i.e. its right arm to left leg) x 9/16 inches (depth/thick).It appears the figure is wearing head and chest protection as a ball player would.I purchased it at Artesanias Candú in Tegucigalpa when I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Honduras from 1976-1979. At the time Candú along with Honduran arts and crafts they sold Maya artifacts as they were located near the Hotel Maya. Contemporary farmers would plow up artifacts and sell them to the Artesanias Candú in the city since tourists shopped there.
