Description: Offered is the antique book "An Epoch and a Man-Martin Van Buren and His Times", written by Denis Tilden Lynch and published in 1929 by Horace Liveright in New York. This biography of the eighth President of the United States is apparently a first edition, with the copyright date matching the title page date, and may be a first printing, as well. There are several black and white illustrations. The original dust jacket is included. This is a rare find but may be unique with its original dust jacket; at the time of original listing I could find only one other copy for sale on eBay, with no jacket, and none with a jacket for sale anywhere else. The book is approx. 8 3/4" x 5 7/8" and contains 566 pages, including the index. It is in good to very good condition. The purple hard cover has almost no wear but has some slight fading. The gold words on the spine and front are still mostly shiny. There is no cracking inside either the front or the back cover. The white endpapers have browned slightly. A previous owner has written his name inside the front cover, dated 1935. I see no missing or torn pages and all are well-attached to the binding. They have browned slightly, with the pages following the illustration pages having browned a bit more, but are otherwise generally clean. I see no writing in the book other than that of the previous owner. The dust jacket is mostly intact, but does have numerous edge tears along the top and bottom, mostly short, but with one longer tear of approx. 2", and there are some small bits missing. It has an unclipped price.
