Description: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. London: William Heinemann, 1915. First edition thus. Publisher's blue/purple cloth, gilt illustrations, lettering and decorative motifs to front cover and spine, top edge coloured, illustrated endpapers; no dust wrapper, as called for. Featuring twelve colour illustrations (as called for), black and white illustrations in the text and end papers and gilt decoration on the front cover by Arthur Rackham Good minus condition. The spine is very worn and lightly faded with the gilt decoration and titles now only seen in relief. Covers are a little rubbed and bumped on the corners and joints, there are some light stains, a little faded in places, but with gilt decoration in good order. Edges are tanned with the top edge colouring well faded. The binding is a little shaken, with the front hinge partially split, the half-title page has a small tear of about one and a half inches, and there are small signs of handling throughout; no pages are loose or coming apart. Neatly gift inscribed to half-title page: 'Kitty from Isobel'. Contents are otherwise clean, plates are not creased and are all present, as called for. A lovely little first trade edition of this most wonderful Christmas tale following grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge's journey to redemption.
