Description: 4 Italian Vintage Cesca Chairs By Marcel Breuer In Beech Wood & Chrome (1970s). Wicker in light wood/straw color with tubular chrome frame. Can be used as dining, desk, or office chair. This specific set of 4 chairs was originally purchased in Italy in the 1970s. Over the years, some of the seats & backrests were replaced (most from the original manufacturer in Italy; 1 seat marked as "Made in Taiwan"). 3 of the seats have slightly different edging and detailing underneath the seats, which may be due to the period of time the replacements were purchased, perhaps because f newer versions from the manufacturer (see photos). It appears that 3 of the seats are Made in Italy, 1 Made in Taiwan. In person viewing can be arranged on site w/ appointment. PICK UP ONLY! Manufacturer is most likely Knoll. 2 of these chairs are in fine vintage condition. 2 of the backrests need replacement. Some slight wear on 2 of the backrests that are in good condition. A few screws missing on tubular chrome. Chrome has some rusty spots (not very visible). Some signs of general age. The Cesca Chair was designed in 1928 by Marcel Breuer. At that time, it was the first such tubular-steel frame caned seat type of chair that was mass-produced. One of the original ones from that time sits in MoMA. It is known as one of the most important chairs of the 20th century. These chairs was produced Italy around the 1970s. The seat and backrests are made from woven cane (wicker/ratan). The frame is crafted from tubular chrome.
