Stands 9.5-inch tall with a variable diameter – 9.5-inches at the top (lid also has 9.5-inch diameter) gradually expands to 10.5-inch diameter at the bottom. Primitive construct with bentwood & staples. Lid fits perfectly and is in really great condition. Bands are tight and staples are all firmly intact. Keep the rustic antique appearance by leaving it as is with its natural aging woodgrain, or make it a summer restoration project! Either way, this is a OOAK hand made wooden sugar bucket, presumably built in the rolling green hills of Vermont, circa 1885-1896. ===================================== BACKGROUND: Salvaged from an old barely standing barn at a rural farmhouse in east-central Vermont. The farm was originally built in 1877, though only a couple of the original structures partially remain. The family wore many hats, one of which was tapping the never ending sea of maple trees that surround the property using a still-new-at-the-time tree tapping technique for draining and collecting sap – which remains the standard to this day. The farm began producing fresh Vermont maple sugar and maple syrup, beginning around 1884-85. The farm was sold in 1897, after the husband’s death a year earlier, in 1896. The property was sold to the family that still owns it to this day, although it is no longer an operational farm. We have more antiques from the same Vt farm coming very soon! ===================================== CONDITION: Preowned Antique No damage. No rotting whatsoever. Some signs of general aging & handling ware, though all minor and all cosmetics only. Some light staining on interior. Overall, this 19th-century antique Vermont farm sugar bucket is a one-of-a-kind piece in very impressive condition! Please use the zoom feature to visually examine the photos for exact condition. Also, please feel free to contact us 24/7 with any questions you may have.
