Description: This autograph note on paper was glued into a 19th century scrapbook that I purchased about 30 years ago. I am finally getting around to removing many of the item which includes numerous historical autographs, and paper ephemera. I have not authenticated any of these but some have information on the reverse which will give you information NJ Congressman John Bird writes “Democrats despise Greeley and yet they say “it is the best we can do” -amazing” Your Truly John Bird. Note measures about 8” by 1” two words are faded but legible. Accompany by a separate clipped signature of Bird that was in the scrapbook just below the note. This note is clearly referring to the 1872 Presidential election in which Horace Greeley ran as a candidate on the Liberal Republican ticket with support from the Democratic Party. Greeley lost to U. S. Grant. Domestic US shipping is $5.00 via US Postal Service. International shipping via eBay’s international shipping program. Payment expected at conclusion of sale.
