Description: 1997 Redware Glazed Sgraffito Decorated 5 1/2" deep Dish Beautiful Sun Center By Lester Breininger For your Breininger Redware Collection-BreiningerSmallDishSun1 Details Description: A nice small glazed and sgraffito decorated redware deep dish. The dish has a slightly flattened round base with flared rounded sides rising to a very lightly coggled edge. The dish is decorated with a sgraffito design depicting the face of a pretty woman with blue eyes and reddish lips within an eight-pointed star, which we believe is a representation of the sun. The entire design is on a yellow-colored background with extensive green highlights surrounding the design. The plate is glazed on the inside but not on the back. The unglazed back has the characteristic color of unglazed redware and is signed by the artist. The plate was made in the studios of Lester Breininger on June 19, 1997. The design represents a colorful whimsical design, which no doubt the potter put together while having fun and most likely celebrating the warmth of that sunny day in June. Just a very interesting modern design which would complement your collection of modern redware dishes. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: June 19, 1997. Origin: Robesonia, Pennsylvania. Size: Measures ~5 1/2" in diameter on top and is ~1 1/8" high. The piece weighs about 5.7 ounces. Maker: Lester Breininger. It has no cracks, chips, repairs, hairlines, or crazing to the glaze that we could see. The plate has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots.
