Description: 1964 JAPAN NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL PARTICIPATION MEDAL 27mm Olympic Year $4-s&h-US A 27mm diam. 3mm thick handled, Participation medal/pin for the Athletics at the 67th Tournament, Gifu Prefecture, for training for Olympic games. The 1964 design of the badge, was influenced by the same year Tokyo Games, which were held later on in October. Normally, the designs of the badges are more spiritual, mythological and artistic.The predecessor of those National Games, were the Meiji Jingu Games. So not directly for the Olympic Games, athletes did training and entered these games. Ribbon is white and purple but my camera has been having problems with true colors. Karatedo competition (73rd competition, Fukui prefecture):The National Sports Festival of Japan (国民体育大会, Kokumin Taiiku Taikai) is the national premier sports event of Japan. It consists of three stages. The skating and ice hockey stage takes place in January, the skiing stage takes place in February, and the main Autumn tournament takes place in September and October. Its name is often abbreviated to Kokutai (国体). This is a participation badge from the 19th Japan National Games (the largest national sport event in Japan, held regularly every year). The predecessor of those National Games, were the Meiji Jingu Games. Unfortunately, the summer leg (the most important leg of the tournament) was cancelled in 1964, due to the catastrophic Nigata earthquake and Tsunami that happened only one day after the start of the Games.
