U.S. - Surplus war property. Okinawa--throughout the Pacific--on Guam, Saipan, Tinian, Okinawa, Leyte, Samara, Manus, Subic Bay, Manila, and other bases-- there are mountains of surplus war property. The Navy has declared $400,000,000 worth of it as surplus. The Navy's job in "Operation Roll-up" is 90 percent complete. The Army expects soon to complete its job of declaring more than a billion dollars worth of surplus in the Pacific. Meanwhile, with sharply reduced manpower both Army and Navy are maintaining the equipment as best they can pending final sale by the Federal Liquidation Commission and the Department of Interior. Not since December has any material been discarded. Even though it is scrap which now is being kept in huge dump areas. Photo measures 8.5 x 6.75 inches. Photo is dated 3-28-1946.
