Description: FOR the complete story, FULL DETAILS and BIG CLEAR PICTURES, Please SEE THE DESCRIPTION 1944 FREE GREECE "100 Drachmai” LATE WORLD WAR II NOTE >After GERMANS DRIVEN OUT Description This is a wounded veteran, used, but still presentable, "One Hundred Drachmai" note from the newly free “ΤΡΑΠΕΖΑ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΟΣ” or “Bank of Greece”. Undated, it was issued in 1944 during World War II, just after the Germans had been driven out of Greece. The last of the occupying troops were gone by November 3, 1944. Back on October 28, 1940 Fascist Italy had declared war and invaded Greece. The Greeks responded by kicking the Italians all the way back into Albania. Winston Churchill: "Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but we will say that heroes fight like Greeks". However, in April of 1941 Hitler marched into Greece and from then until November of 1944, just before this note was issued, Greece was conquered and occupied.
