Description: Here is a $5 Silver Certificate, series of 1934-A, NORTH AFRICA EMERGENCY ISSUE, with yellow gold seal. NICE BRIGHT EXTREMELY FINE NOTESerial #K60744932A. Treasury signatures of Julian and Morgenthau. Fr. 2308. This note was part of a series of $1-$5 and $10 notes issued in 1942 for use in the North African Campaign of World War II. The notes were regular $10 silver certificates, but with the normal blue Treasury seal replaced with a yellow gold one. This was to make the notes easily identifiable in case a military disaster occurred and the payroll fell into German hands. In such a case, all of the yellow seal notes could have been declared worthless. As it turned out, the North African Campaign was a success, and these notes continued to be used to pay U.S. troops in the Italian campaign of 1943-1944. They are important monetary souvenirs of the fighting in North Africa and Europe, and they remain valid currency even today!NO pinholes or tears. SEE PHOTOS
