Description: 1916 M101-4 "Sporting News" Blank Backs #108 LEE MAGEE (New York Yankees) Banned Born Leopold Hoernschemeyer but always played under the name "Lee Magee" and eventually legally changed his name to Magee Magee was known as a unscrupulous player and was best friends with teammate Hal Chase, who was a known gambler/fixer of games. He was eventually banned from MLB for life by Commissioner Landin in 1921. Card has vertical indentation on right side & across middle (which happened during production and is common to this issue.) Looks nicer than technical grade will be if graded. Clean back. The M101-4/5 sets are among the most important and significant sets ever produced. Mostly known for the inclusion of Babe Ruth's first Major League card with the Red Sox, which most consider his Rookie card. The M101-4/5 sets were made with either Blank Backs or a variety of different advertisements. Please see scans for condition. Please be sure to ask any questions you may have prior to purchasing.
