Description: This So-Called Dollar commemorates the visit to San Diego of the United States Battle Fleet under the command of Admiral Robley D Evans . Evans was known as "Fighting Bob" because of his strong stance against the Chilieans in 1898 while commanding the gunboat USS Yorktown in Valpriaso . Evans was left to protect the U.S. interest in Chile and he was clear with the government of Chile that if U.S. interests were harmed there would be a significant retailiation . An often cited story of Admiral Evans was during the civil war in January of 1865 when Evans was an ensign aboard the USS Powhatan . He led the seaman from the USS Powhatan against Fort Fisher to take the fort from the confedrates. As Evans appraoched the fort he was shot in the thigh but kept going, leading his men closer to the fort . During that time Evans was shot several more times one shot being in the knee which brought him down .Evans was rescued and taken to the hospital in Norfolk . As Evans lay in his bed at the hopistal a surgeon came by and proposed amputation of his damaged leg . Evans pulled a pistol out from under his pillow and said he would shoot at the first sight of the suregeon's saw !It was thought that Evans would not survive but he did .......see more below This so called dollar that is up for sale is a HK-531 Type 2 of the 6 types minted to commemorate the visit of San Diego by the US fleet under the command of Admiral Evans .The obverse has a bust of an Admiral facing right above the bust is " Rear Admiral Evans " on the bottom is " Fighting Bob " to the left of the bust is 19 to the right is 08 . Upper legand " Souvenir visit of US Naval Fleet" and the lower legend says " To The Pacific Caost " .The Reverse has 3 bagttleships with the setting suns rays .The HK-351 is brass with a reeded edge and is 36mm . This SC$1 has been graded XF detail environmental damage . The detail is nice and the surfaces are a mix of red and brown .
