Its prupose was to generate interest in Sulphur Springs Resort, the mineral springs resort that had begun to develop near Sulphur, OK, in the 1890s, partly on Indian land. In 1902 this land became part of the Sulphur Springs Indian Reservation later renamed the Platt National Park, and is now known as the Chickasaw National Recreation Area.
