Description: This 7" coupe-shape plate is a wonderful example of design from the late 1800s Aesthetic Movement period in Great Britain. Produced in 1885 by Ridgways in Stoke-on-Trent, the pattern is called "Devonshire" and it features a brown transferware design with hand-colored accents of rust and yellow. (Most pieces in this pattern are simply brown and white; it is rare to find the polychrome examples.) The plate is in good antique condition, with no chips or cracks, does have crazing. The colors are still vivid with age darkening to the lighter-colored areas. Please look closely at the photos and email me with questions. Among the most well known names related to the movement are William Morris, James McNeill Whistler and Oscar Wilde.
