Upon leaving school, Ward apprenticed with a printer, after which he helped edit newspapers in Derby, Staffordshire, and Hull. In 1797 and 1798, he studied at a theological academy in Yorkshire. In 1799 he began his missionary career in Serampore, India. He oversaw the community's printing press, which was used to disseminate the scriptures, once they had been translated into Bengáli, Mahratta, Tamil, and twenty-three other languages. Until 1806, he made frequent tours amongst the towns and villages of the province. In 1818 he co-founded Serampore College. In addition to his sermons, he wrote several books, including this description of “all religions.” Condition: The covers are detached. The boards have minor warping. The text block remains bound. The pages are heavily age-toned and foxed. A few of the pages have corner creases.
